about

This song was written about a year ago, and I recently got to bring it to life through a songwriting intensive class with UNCSA. It's my first release- rough around the edges, but close to my heart.

lyrics

Rain taps on the roof of my tent
Some water's leaked in, but not much yet
The storm grows closer and it just won't fade
Alone and moribund in my nylon cave

Clouds float in the air like fish after death
Drops evaporate along with my breath
Water forms melodies in the woods
I'd stop overthinking if only I could

Do you dream of me as I dream of you?
Pendulous, drowning in pools of blue
I feel you hovering in the sky
Eyes magnified seven billion times

Teardrops exploding like miniature rockets
Leaking and pooling in my eye sockets
They flow and ebb in the back of my skull
And your stare pins me down to the ground with a pull

And I wonder
Are you crying out for me,
Or am I the last one on your mind?

No matter the case,
Your tears fill and spill over the edge of my face

I tried not to keep you close,
But when you left me,
I just froze.

I consider allowing myself to be abducted, falling into your iris. But when I finally leave my tent, gazing up to the rain, the suspended waterfall, it's too dark to see your eye at all. The sky is an empty, black nebula. So maybe, in the end, I'm just floating in your retina. Because my feet stay locked on the forest floor, and I don't feel you watching me anymore.
